There are many times when you can truly be thankful for the gift of time, but there are also times where it is appropriate to say thank you. The two I find the most common times for thank yous are on birthdays, when we say “thank you” to others and when we say it to ourselves (with a smile, of course).
There’s a reason why we say thank you to others over and over again and why we ask ourselves over and over again when we say thank you to ourselves. In a culture that is obsessed with “self-improvement”, the habit of saying thank you to ourselves is what separates us from the rest of the “crowd.
The point is that we all feel like we have to do everything right or else, we won’t be successful in life. We all have to be thankful to our parents and our teachers and our friends. We have to thank the people who helped us along the way and who supported us when we made mistakes. But at some point we have to stop thanking others and start thanking ourselves.
Thanks? I always thought the idea of a thank you was to say, “Wow, you’re doing a great job!” which would be nice if we were being complimented on something that actually mattered. But the reality is that it’s all just a big ego thing. We’re all competing against the same little monsters in our brain. We’re all trying to do the same thing.
A lot of people’s ego is a lot like the ego of the real person, so we’re not really going to get to keep the part of the brain that feels like it’s playing in the background. But if we were to turn the whole thing into a thank you, we’d likely use it in a number of ways. For instance, it might be useful to say, What a beautiful, wonderful film you made, that I wanted to see in the movie.
And if we’re to use this in a way that makes sense, we might say, What a fantastic movie you’ve made, and that I want to see in the movie.
The fact is, most of the people in The Last of Us have a good reason to be grateful that they could use it. The reason these people are there for The Last of Us is to give back to the community that they have been part of for so long. It’s a very emotional game. And if we allow it to be played that way, it’s not only a very good game, but it’s very cool to have some type of relationship with that community.
When I say “thank you,” I mean really. I think I’m going to have to say it out loud. I’ve actually been thinking about this for a long time, and I think I’ve been thinking about all the times I’ve gone to my brother’s house and talked to him and I’ve been thinking about everything I’ve said to him. I’ve been thinking about everything that I’ve said to him, and I think I’ve been thinking about everything that was said to him.
Just like the game, a lot of the time we have a lot of things that we are going to forget about, or don’t think about. Often times these things are things that we don’t even realize are important to us. When I made my first video I wanted to thank everyone who played, but it did not go over well. I was like, “I cant thank you. Ive got to forget about this and move on.
I thought about being a thank-you, but now I think it’s so obvious that I cant thank you. I mean, to be honest, I never really thought about it that way. I just don’t think about it anymore.
