So You’ve Bought you re broke because you want to be … Now What?

This past week, I got a bit of a break. I started my first (and hopefully not last) full time job. I moved from my hometown of Colorado to my new home of California. I’m now spending the most part of the year in school. I live alone, so I don’t have to deal with anyone else’s life, I just have to deal with my own.

I live in a state with a high unemployment rate due to its high taxes and the fact that most businesses aren’t able to provide good paying jobs like they used to. And as for being broke? I’m not really broke, but I’m not too broke to move out.

I moved here in 2013 to be closer to my job as a professor at Cal State Fullerton. I commute about 1 hour each way to and from school, so I’m broke at best for most of the year. However, this year I am going to be teaching a class on finance and business. I have to be up at 6:30am every morning, so I’m pretty broke, but hey, the extra hours are well worth it.

I got a job as a full-time professor at a local university. I commute about an hour and a half each way to, and from, school. I have a car. I also have a lot of money. So Ive moved out of dorms to a bigger apartment, which is where I live now. I have a car. I also have a LOT of money.

Yeah, you’re pretty broke. You probably have a few million dollars to spend, but you definitely don’t have a lot of cash right now. You’re a college professor. There are a lot of jobs you can do today that would be great, but you probably don’t have a need for them. You’re probably not the kind of student who is always buying expensive, high-end items like BMWs, Lexins, etc.

Ive had a few years of high school and college where youre either on the verge of breaking up or have nothing, and then at the end of that time youre on the verge of making a full house. It’s usually pretty quiet in college. The hardest part of college is getting to know the other people youre having a relationship with. So Ive been through a lot of ups and downs, but Ive started to find a new girlfriend who I can actually date.

A lot of people fail to realize that you can do a lot of cool things in your 40s or your 60s, but you can’t do a lot of cool things in your 20s or your 30s. You can only do a ton of stuff. You can’t do anything else. If youre not careful, you can find yourself out of money in your 20s and 30s, and that can be really painful.

The only thing more painful than not having the money you need to be able to buy the things you need to be able to be able to be in a relationship is when youre broke. And it’s the only thing.

You’re not even going to be able to spend time talking about that. It’s not like you’re talking about something different. You’re just going to be making money. You’re not going to be able to spend time with a friend or a family member or any other person or anything, and that’s not going to be a good life-re-election.

We all have a story about the time were broke. Its a lot of things. And I know youre not going to tell me because youre just going to go on being broke and youre just going to think youre going to be able to say that youre fine. But youre not.
